Thermohydraulics of Heated Porous Media Associated with Nuclear Reactor Safety
Abstract In the frame of the Post Accident Heat Removal scenario addressed to the nuclear safety analysis of Liquid Metal Fast Breeder reactors, a state-of-the art of the experimental actions undertaken and the theoretical models developed to investigate the thermohydraulic behaviour of self-heated debris beds overlied by a liquid layer is presented. The parameters controling the coolability of the particulate bed during the preboiling and boiling regimes are identified. The discussion emphasizes more specifically the effect of the bed height, the particle size, the bottom cooling and the top subcooling on the dryout heat flux. A multidimensional model developed to simulate power transients during in-pile tests is described.
