Numerical Analysis of Soil Nailed Vertical Wall Using PLAXIS
Soil nailing is one of the widely used technique to achieve slope stability and to retain the soil. It is an effective and economical method. Soil nailing is the best suited to retain the vertical excavation. From various studies, it is found that soil nailed wall shows finer and reliable performance in both static and dynamic conditions. The static method is a sort of systematic approach which consider all the available equivalent seismic forces acting on the soil surface during a seismic event like earthquake, etc. Study of the behavior and characteristics of the soil nailed vertical wall under static loading conditions is performed using the finite element method. Finite element approach is carried out using PLAXIS 2D. The soil surface which undergoes failure is considered as a more realistic composite failure surface. The soil nailed vertical wall is analyzed for different loading conditions. To satisfy the static analysis, Mohr–Coulomb method is applied in this study. In case of modeling of nails and facing, plate element is considered. As a result of analyzing the static analysis approach, the soil nail vertical wall excavation is modeled. The deformation of the nailed soil wall and the stress distribution were analyzed briefly.
