Total Plastic Strain and Electrical Resistivity in High Purity Aluminum Cyclically Strained at 4.2 K
Abstract The objective of this research is to correlate the resistivity increases in pure aluminum with the total accumulated plastic strain in cyclic strain experiments performed at 4.2 K. Monolithic tensile specimens were cycled to 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.3% strain for 3000 cycles. Resistivity measurements were made periodically during the experiments using the Eddy-Current Decay method. Resistivity increases are found to be linearly proportional to total plastic strain over much of the region for which plastic strain accumulates.
