Determination of the effective length of sand traps in hydroelectric plants
Conclusions 1. The method recommended in the norms TUiN 24-110-48 for determining the length of the effective portions of sand traps yields excessively large dimensions of these structures in comparison with those required, especially for high values of the settlement probability of the sediments (W0>85%), and does not take into account their nonuniform distribution with flow depth. 2. The method proposed in this article reflects more accurately the process of settlement of sediment in the sand traps and does not have the above-mentioned shortcomings.
