Transport in Oriented Polyacetylene
Abstract Highly oriented polyacetylene has been synthesized by Akagi’s method. After p and n doping they, present a d.c. conductivity of about 20,000 Ω-1cm-1 at room temperature. Between T = 300 K and T = 20 K σ decreases slowly (one order of magnitude) for quasi metallic system and drops between T = 20 K and T = 4K. For mean doping levels the temperature dependence is well fitted by a Sheng formula. Optical conductivity has been compared to d.c. conductivity for p doped (CH)X.This leads to the conclusion that d.c. conductivity is dominated by interchain or inter-fibril hopping while optical conductivity is dominated by intrachain mechanism.
