Retrofitting of the Building for Earth Quake
The considered structure yields dispersed at member level throughout the building in the analysis for the earthquakeEarthquake loads. The intensity of failure is found to be highest at ground level and diminishes at above stories. Moreover, it is found in the analysis that the lateral earthquake forces have induced huge axial loads in cuts and large shearShear forces in beams, as a result of which certain beams are found overstressed in shear. Different strengthening techniques have been proposed in this chapter for the considering structure to improve its seismic resistance. In the first solution use of cross bracings are proposed in order to reduce the effect of lateral loadsLateral loads in the building. After providing the cross bracings, many columns are found over stressed. Hence, reinforced concrete jacketing is proposed as it improves column Axial as well as flexural strength and ductilityDuctility. In another proposed solution, addition of new reinforced concrete shear walls is considered as it provides the best option of strengthening an existing structure for improved seismic performance. It adds significant strength and stiffness to framed structures.
