CFRP Strengthened Reinforce Concrete Square Elements Under Unequal Lateral Impact Load
An assessment technique for the impact-resistant capability of structures must be established to build an impact-resistant design process for Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer CFRP reinforced concrete structures based on the failure mode concept. A particular method for concrete elements with unequal impact loading has not yet been specified worldwide. Therefore, falling-weight impact tests on specimens with varying CFRP layers were conducted. Critical factors for better representing the impact, deflection, and strain time history behavior of the concrete elements were investigated. The impact deflection is reduced as the number of layers increases, and longitudinal wrapping may efficiently transfer force. D'Alembert’s dynamic equilibrium principle equation was proposed based on the experimental results. The required effect of impact and resistance force for RC and CFRP elements may be determined and specifying the limit state with the elements’ maximum deflections by using these equations.
