Computing Technologies to Construct an Islamic Geometric Patterns Respecting the “Hasba” Method
In this presentation, we put forth in the plane ornamental art, particularly in the geometric drawing. These geometric patterns are generally found in tiles that cover floors or walls of many buildings throughout the whole the Islamic world such as mosques. This form of art has evolved over centuries from simple drawing to complex geometry involving a high degree of symmetry. We describe here one method of construction of the geometric patterns encountered in the Islamic art. Artisans adopt this method called “Hasba”; it is rather suitable for sculpture and painting on wood. This method is based on geometric rules and the concept of symmetry. Here, we describe systematically the basic approach to create a new model respecting rules of the “Hasba” method by tracing grids with precise criteria of measurement.
