Phnom Penh became the royal capital for 73 years, from 1432 to 1505. However, at that time, it was known as “Chaktomuk” (Four Faces), because of its location next to the four-branched confluence of the rivers MekongRiversMekong, Tonlé SapRiversTonlé Sap and BassacRiversBassac.
