Large scale blasting for the abutment of a bridge
Summary For the excavation of an abutment of a highway bridge a novel blasting technique, the so-called “multilayer, multistage control blasting, with more free surfaces” was adopted. As a result, the cost for the project was reduced by 23% and an undamaged slope of 82° was created. The key points of the technique are presented in this paper and applications to other cases are also shown.
