Breakage Effect of Soft Rock Blocks in Soil-Rock Mixture with Different Block Proportions
Abstract Nowadays soil-rock mixture (S-RM) with highly weathered soft rock blocks is widely used as a backfill material for slopes. S-RM samples with different block proportions by weight (WBP) are simulated by DEM direct shear tests considering the breakage of rock blocks. The breakage characteristics of the soft rock blocks, and the breakage effect on the shear mechanical properties of S-RM with different WBPs are investigated. The breakage meso-ratio and breakage energy of rock blocks increase with the increment of horizontal displacement and WBP. The breakage of rock blocks induces the rapid increment of breakage energy. The breakage of rock blocks has a negative impact on the increment of internal friction angle, while it may contribute to the cohesion of S-RM with the increment of WBP. The width of strain localization zone decreases with increment of higher WBP (46%–60%) because of larger breakage degree of rock blocks.
