Rock Strength Failure Criterion
Rock failure is usually divided into brittle failure and ductile failure. The main influencing factors of rock failure are not only stress and strain state, but also temperature, confining pressure, pore pressure and strain rate. The failure of rock under simple stress conditions can be obtained directly through laboratory experiments, but a general failure criterion must be found for rock under three directional complex stress conditions. This chapter mainly introduces the Coulomb-Mohr criterion, which is the most commonly used criterion in rock mechanics, the fracture criterion considering the influence of the weak surface of the rock layer, and the Griffith criterion based on the microscopic fracture theory.
