A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Kuwait-MIT Collaborative Signature Project: Sustainability of Kuwait’s Built Environment
This first MIT-Kuwait Signature Project is a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional, and multinational collaborative research between Kuwaiti researchers and MIT aiming at the development of innovative methods and solutions for the sustainability of Kuwait’s built environment. With a three-level multi-scale approach of materials, buildings, and urban neighborhoods, the effort represents a wide scope leadership activity in science and engineering through a remarkable research. This research is sponsored by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science (KFAS). The overall project approach includes three interrelated research focus areas with a multi-scale approach involving construction materials, buildings, and cities: (1) Focus Area A, innovative Materials (nanoengineered construction materials); (2) Focus Area B, performance-based engineering and reliability; and (3) Focus Area C: energy efficiency and life cycle analysis. The participating research institutions are KISR, Kuwait University, and MIT. The project resulted in integrated collaborative knowledge, capacity building, scientific publications, and establishing of research programs.
