Recent Researches on Masonry Construction and Critical Discussion of Examples of Rehabilitation
Abstract We expose the last results of the researches concerning the structural analysis of some monuments localized in seismic areas. We put forward some considerations on the behaviour of masonry materials and also on the foundation of the statics of masonry construction. In the present state of the art there are many doubts about the dynamical behaviour of these materials, expecially due to the characteristic elastic-brittle behaviour under tension. We give two examples to focalize the extrem difference of the subjects of study: cases of study in which Pozzuoli amphitheatre, and Modica cathedral are analysed.
