A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
While the previous chapter (Chap. 3) introduced contextual concepts such as a generic enterprise organization or enterprise value chain, this chapter takes a black-box perspective on an architecture function. It outlines the expectations and requirements that enterprises have for architecture functions by looking at an idealized function from the outside. It discusses the building blocks of an architecture function, the services it provides along the enterprise value chain, and the quality attributes that enterprises expect from their architecture functions in the twenty-first century. The next chapter (Chap. 5) continues the structures introduced here and proposes a generic design of an architecture function. To this end, the generic design outlines proposals for the realization of the constituent building blocks, the implementation of the functional offering (services), and the approach to realizing the quality attributes of an architecture function.
