A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Contemporary social, economic, and environmental challenges that affect the built environment require an innovative approach when planning cities. This means that current practices must change, yet, it is vital that these changes be understood as an evolution—a transition with a direct connection to the past. This chapter will clarify this connection. First, a brief history of what lead to the decline of cities will be given, followed by an exploration of social issues that are imperative to consider.
