Study on Recirculation Between Intakes and Outfalls of Desalination Plants
Abstract Surface intakes and outfalls are commonly adopted in co-located power and desalination plants nowadays. With the reversible tidal flows in the coastal environment, the recirculation of the discharged effluents between the intake and outfall could occur to some degrees. In this study, the recirculation of surface dense jet was investigated through numerical simulations. In particular, the open source CFD software of OpenFOAM was used, and the large eddy simulation (LES) approach was adopted. The recirculation rates under different conditions were examined.
