Polyvinylidene fluoride hollow fiber membrane and its use for treatment of natural water
Abstract Novel polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber membrane has been prepared using the technique of nonsolvent-induced phase inversion. The membrane morphology has been studied by scanning electron microscopy. The selectivity of the prepared membrane has been determined by filtration of solutions of polyethylene glycols. The value of molecular weight cut-off is 300 kDa. Ultrafiltration modules based on the hollow fiber PVDF membrane have been tested for filtration of natural water from surface and underground sources. A possibility to obtain potable water from highly polluted natural water at high filtration rates (>140 L/h m2) using the novel PVDF membrane has been demonstrated.
