The Application of Basalt Fiber Fabric to Reinforce the Structures in the Construction Industry
Currently in construction often use FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) synthetic fiber materials such as carbon fiber, glass fiber to repair structural damage. However, these materials have not been produced in Vietnam, so they have to be imported from abroad with high costs. In this article, the author presents an overview of a new material that can be produced in Vietnam to replace FRP, which is continuous basalt fiber (BCF) by several advantages: High mechanical strength, high heat resistance and no corrosion by chemicals. In addition, BCF also has higher modulus of elasticity and strength than construction steel, so it can replace FRP in the field of building structural reinforcement. With these superior features, research and application to produce this material in Vietnam is very necessary in the present time.
