Decoding Morphological Evolution of Urban Historical Area Case from Laomendong, Nanjing
Chinese urban heritage experienced from traditional residential area to modern urban heritage area. This process is an important factor to understand dynamics of spatial transformation. Urban morphology study can be used to understand transitional process in urban context. This paper examines the transformation process of the urban historical area through a case study of Laomendong, one historical area in Nanjing, by developing a framework to analysis which factors of dynamic system can influence the morphological evolution. The objective of the investigation is to highlight the connection between system concept and morphological changes, considering its importance in understanding urban spatial transformation. This study concludes that the process of morphological evolution is related to a dynamic system composed of multiple factors, which can also provide a theoretical basis for further study.
