Characterization of Refractories
Abstract This chapter discussed the purpose of using Refractories and gives a general introduction to Refractory materials available, which includes oxides, carbides, nitrides, and borides. It describes the different mechanical, thermal, and thermo-mechanical properties by which the Refractory materials are characterized. The importance of microstructure of refractories is also discussed. The test methods to determine porosity, bulk density, CCS, MOR, PCE, RUL, thermal conductivity, thermal expansion, HMOR, wedge-splitting test, PLC, thermal shock resistance, and corrosion resistance are discussed.
