A Review of Simulation Methods for Smart Structures with Piezoelectric Materials
Abstract In order to improve the performance of the existing piezoelectric devices and develop novel piezoelectric materials, it is necessary to have accurate and reliable models for their analysis and design. Most investigators extensively use classic, numerical approaches to predict and analyse characteristics of smart structures. Continuous demand for more precise systems, however, has pushed worldwide investigators to search for more accurate and efficient computational models. It is generally recognized that theoretical models are effective only for well-defined geometries and boundary conditions. In practical applications, finite element method usually provides an alternative in modelling, simulation and analysis of smart structures.
