Analysis on the Influence of Rainfall Characteristics on the Stability of Granite Residual Soil Slope
Rainfall characteristics have important impacts on slope stability. Aimed to analyze the influence of rainfall on granite residual soil slope stability. The finite element method is used for the calculation of transient seepage in the unsaturated slope, while the method of limit equilibrium is used for computing its safety factor. The change of pore water pressure, slip surface and safety factor are investigated through numerical calculations with consideration of various intensity and duration of rainfall. The results show good agreement with the statistic results of the rainfall-caused landslide cases. The type, intensity, duration of rainfall have significant impact on slope stability. And it is found that sometimes the minimum safety factor may occur several hours or several days after the rainfall, instead of the time during the rainfall or when the rain just stops.
