Ground Water Modeling: A Critical Review
Abstract This paper reviews the formulation stage in the development of groundwater models. By considering radial flow to a well, regional groundwater flow and the estimation of recharge it is shown that the failure to reproduce important field parameters and responses in groundwater models can lead to unreliable solutions. Particular emphasis is placed on the inclusion of variations in the hydraulic conductivity, starting conditions, the selection of the area to be included in a model and the confirmation that the model is representing the actual field behaviour.
