Modelling of Shallow Drawing of Aluminium Alloy AA2014 Thin Sheet Using FE Simulations
The aluminium alloy exhibits excellent isotropy in mechanical properties, with good weldability and corrosion/oxidation resistance, and shows limited shallow drawing formability. In this paper, forming characteristics of aluminium alloy AA2014 forged sheet are systematically investigated using numerical simulation, based on elasto-plastic deformation parameters using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) code PAM-STAMP 2G. Parameters like blank diameters at three levels with five varied coefficients of friction using an optimized mesh size are used to model and simulate the shallow drawing process of AA2014 alloy sheet of 1 mm thickness. The stress distribution, the maximum and minimum principal stresses, the strain distribution, and variation in thickness during cup formation have been determined by simulation. The thickness variation along with strain distributions from the simulated data has been compared and validated, as also for punch forces and displacements. The FE simulation results of variation in punch force outcomes of the experiment were found to be in good accord.
