A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Integrating Smart City Technologies for Sustainable Pavement Infrastructure
This chapter explores the connection between Smart City advancements and the development of asphalt pavement materials and strategies. Four categories of intelligent technologies are examined: Connected Data, Big Data Analysis, Infrastructure, and Crowdsourcing and Citizen Science. These technologies enable data collection, analysis, and citizen engagement for improved pavement management. The use of sensors, IoT, and blockchain facilitates real-time data sharing and monitoring of pavement conditions. Big Data Analysis enhances decision-making by identifying patterns and trends. Intelligent infrastructure integrates nanomaterials and smart materials, leading to enhanced pavement, performance, and sustainability. Crowdsourcing and Citizen Science encourage active citizen participation in pavement inspection and maintenance. This type of interdisciplinary exploration enhances sustainability in urban development, offering insights into the transformation of the area of pavement materials and infrastructure by means of innovative technologies. These advancements have the potential to reduce energy consumption, optimize resource allocation, and improve the overall quality of asphalt pavements.
