A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Abstract Social isolation and loneliness are increasingly prevalent among older adults in Israel, as in the rest of the world. Loneliness is associated with a wide range of negative physical, emotional, and cognitive effects. This chapter describes the “Senior Network,” a pilot program that allows socially isolated older people to participate in social programming from the comfort of their own homes, discussing topics such as current events, religion, health promotion, and music appreciation. The primary goal of this nation-wide program is to reduce loneliness by turning the home computer into a gateway to engagement, intellectual stimulation, culture, and friendship.
