Here the corrosion of metallic artefacts and the production of a patina are considered along with the deterioration of building stones and stained glass. The Raman spectral signatures on artefacts that are characteristic of oxidation and their exposure to acid rain are evaluated and listed and input of this information to conservation treatment is discussed.
