Monte Carlo and Subset Simulations-Based Reliability Analysis of Composite Frames Using OpenSees
This study presents an effective method to conduct reliability analysis and to propose the system resistance factors for the system design of frames with concrete filled steel tubular (CFST) columns. The method is mainly based on the integration of OpenSees and Matlab codes for the determination of the load-carrying capacity and reliability indices. Particularly, the Matlab codes are developed using Monte-Carlo and subset simulations to generate samples with random variables and to predict the failure probability of CFST structures. In addition, a new material for semi-rigid connections added to OpenSees is implemented to carry out nonlinear analysis of samples mentioned above. To accurately capture the reliability of CFST frames, the uncertainties of many variables such as applied loads, section dimensions, material properties are carefully considered by defining their probabilistic models in the Matlab codes. Finally, a case study is performed using the proposed model to determine the reliability indices and system resistance factors of the CFST frames.
