Sustainable Structural Design of Residential Tall Building Based on Embodied Energy and Cost Performance
Malaysia is one of the countries having a large number of tall structures. This is one of the engineer’s initiatives to maximize land use due to the growing population. This rapid development endangered the environment through energy consumption and carbon emission in Malaysia. This study aims to design high-rise structure buildings using Esteem Software that differ in shape and to offer the most efficient models of high-rise buildings based on embodied energy (EE) and cost performance analysis. These analyses were divided into two categories: EE of a building which was calculated by considering the Hybrid life cycle assessment (LCA) method and the entire cost of the materials utilized in building construction. Furthermore, the study is limited to the cradle to gate phase only. The results demonstrate that as the number of sides increases, so does the value of EE and cost performance. It can be seen that the shape's performance while keeping the same value is significantly related to the number of sides of the shape.
