1915 Çanakkale Bridge – Dream to Reality
1915 Çanakkale Bridge is located in one of the most historical places of Türkiye, approximately 200 km southwest of Istanbul. 1915 Çanakkale Bridge is in the heart of “Kınalı-Tekirdağ-Çanakkale-Savaştepe Motorway Project” which is creating a new shortcut connecting the western part of Türkiye to Europe and will make a significant contribution to the development of industry and tourism in the region. The Project will connect Istanbul to Çanakkale and then to the North Aegean, thus it will provide the integration of transportation between the Marmara and Aegean Regions.
1915 Çanakkale Bridge is designed to meet many challenges such as strong winds, extreme seismic conditions, ship collisions, and difficult geological conditions.
1915 Çanakkale Bridge is the longest span suspension bridge with a main span of 2,023 m and the tallest tower suspension bridge with a tower height of 334 m. It is the first bridge spanning over 2 km as a twin box steel girder with a 9 m gap. The arrangement of the deck is finalized with the analysis and wind tunnel tests done for satisfying the critical wind speeds and improving traffic comfort with wind barriers. The material of the towers is selected as steel to reduce the construction time by the utilization of prefabrication technics as well as to reduce the seismic mass of the towers. The main cables consist of prefabricated parallel wire strands which provided fast erection.
1915 Çanakkale Bridge has constructed successfully in a record-breaking time of 48 months despite the difficult conditions created by Covid 19 pandemic.
