Airborne LIDAR Data Processing for Smart City Modelling
This article made in the aim of finding out the best way of processing laser scanning data and creating a fully equipped city informational model. The method of automatically generation of 3D city model only from the laser scanner data was chosen as an aim of this research. The airborne laser scanning caused the highest interest in this article. The methodology for processing airborne laser scanning results in order to create the fictional three-dimensional model of the city with all the necessary features and useful information was developed. The proposed methodology was applied to the laser scanning data, which was especially collected for this study. All the steps of creating a finish model survey, point cloud classification, creating a digital surface model, drawing model of buildings and their facades were studied. This article also represents the results of our studies with some difficulties occurred during study of processing. Therefore, some plans for further studies were made in order to minimize obstacles that we found during laser scanning data processing. The results of this study could be very important in real life because they can be applied to different spheres of studies, as virtual tourism, urban planning, geo-informational systems, building informational modelling, building monitoring, etc.
