Case History of Soil–Cement Piles with H-Shaped Steels and Vertical Loading Tests
This paper offers a case history of a piled raft foundation with concrete piles and soil–cement piles (walls) supporting 13-story hospital on soft clay. The soil–cement piles with H-shaped steels were used as settlement reducer for supporting vertical load of building weight. In order to adopt the soil–cement piles, vertical loading tests on the piles with H-shaped steels were conducted. Two cases with and without stud connectors were carried out in order to check the friction between steel and soil–cement and stud’s strength. And also, strain acts on piles, contact earth pressure between raft and soil, water pressure beneath the raft and the settlements at 1st floor were measured for more than fifteen years. The measured settlements were less than the allowable values of 30 mm and the measured axial load of the soil–cement pile was stable. It was confirmed that the soil–cement piles support the building weight sufficiently.
