Ecosystem indices and target in sand-bar landscape management
Ecosystem conservation becomes one of the objectives of river management in addition to the safety against flood and water resources utilization, but we have not yet postulated the target through the adequate indices. In this paper, the sand bar landscape conservation is picked up as a topic when we discuss the indices and target of ecosystem conservation, which often becomes an emotional slogan for landscape river environment management. Significance of the sand bar landscape is summarized to habitat supply and service for material flow and changes. Based on the results of cooperative research on the Kizu River through these few years, roles of individual sub-bar scale landscapes are discussed, and the discussion suggests the strategy how to conserve the landscape in various scales.
