Conclusions 1. It is necessary to distinguish two kinds of damageability of film facings, namely, those related to a change in the physical and mechanical properties of the film and to the occurrence of holes. The most dangerous is damageability of the second kind. 2. It is necessary to determine or to check by the formula proposed in the article the thickness of facings through which seepage leaks are impermissible. 3. As a rule the sands found throughout the USSR are favorable for use as the underlying and protective layers of film facings. 4. Protective pads reduce the damageability of film facings and can be recommended for use in those cases when an increase in the thickness of the film facings is impossible or inadvisable.
