Analytical Models for Axially-Restrained Steel–Concrete-Steel Sandwich Panel Under Blast
Two approaches for predicting blast responses of axially-restrained Steel–Concrete-Steel (SCS) sandwich panels were reported in this chapter. The tensile membrane action of steel faceplates of the SCS sandwich panel was considered in the two models. In the first approach, the SCS sandwich panel was idealized as a single-degree-of-freedom system. The resistance–deflection function of the SCS sandwich panel was obtained by utilizing the energy balance principle. Subsequently, the Lagrange Equation model with combined shape functions was proposed to establish the equations of motion for the SCS sandwich panel. The strain rate effects of steel and concrete were also incorporated into the two analytical models, and the Dynamic Increase Factors of steel and concrete were calculated based on the varying strain rate during motion. The Finite Element analysis was carried out to validate the proposed analytical models.
