Dissociation of Individual Molecules with a STM
Abstract The scanning tunneling microscope (STM) can be used to probe the adsorption of individual molecules on semiconductor surfaces. This is illustrated with topographic images and spectroscopic measurements of decaborane (B10 H14 ) molecules adsorbed on a silicon(111)-(7×7) surface. Furthermore it is shown that the STM can be used in an active mode to dissociate single decaborane molecules by using electrons from the STM tip.
