Experience with the operation of gates at the Lenénnergo hydroelectric plants
Conclusions 1. Among all the different types of spillway gates, the best operating qualities were exhibited by the segmental gate with closed transverse sections. This type of gate may be recommend ed for use undersimilar climatic conditions as an operative gate for regulating the water level in the reservoir. Among the gates which may compete with segmental gates, we may mention the semihhydraulic cylidrical and drum gates. 2. Among the gates kept in storage during the winter and placed only during the high water period, with full opening of the spillway passages, the most satisfactory ones are the vertical-lift gates. 3. A progressive type of maintenance repair gate for spillway openings is that represented by the floating gates installed at the Svetogorsk and Lesogorsk plants; a more refined type of floating gate has been developed by Professor V. G. Gebel. 4. Favorably operating turbine gates have been those flat gates used at the Lesogorsk and Svetogorsk plants. which are characterized by their high degree of watertightness, small weight, compactness of the upper elements owing to the low location of the hoist, and originality of the operation blocking. 5. Excellent operating characteristics are shown by the electric hoists for the maintenance stop logs in the outlet at the Volkhovsk plant. The use of this equipment is to be recommended. 6. The arrangement of the grooves for the maintenance repair gates and the trashracks in dams built across rivers should be established on the basis of the volume and type of trash in the river.
