Barriers in the Application of Lean Construction Principles Concerning Quality Improvement in Construction Projects
In the present era of industrial evolution, time and resources are fundamental needs of any industry. Similarly, utilization of time and resources efficiently is necessity of construction industry to meet the project budget, deadline and for successfully completion of the project. This completion of project within budget & time with optimal resources will lead to successful project completion and refers the quality of project. Lean approach in construction has been followed to provide such procedure to achieve the above mentioned necessity of construction project. This paper delineates the obstacles hindering the application of Lean construction principles in construction projects. To achieve this objective, a questioner survey of 118 Construction Professionals is carried out. After a thorough review, a total of 28 barriers were found and classified into the following six categories: Financial, technical, governmental, educational, and hu-man attitude management In this paper ranking is provided to the different categories of the barriers with their Relative Importance Index (RII). This study concludes that based on survey carried out, all barriers are have strong effect level, in that the strongest barrier to implementing Lean Construction principles is lack of knowledge on how to apply Lean Construction principles.
