Evaluate Healing Performance of Asphalt Mixture Containing Steel Slag by Using Induction and Microwave Heating
The purpose of this study is to analyze the healing properties of asphalt mixture, containing steel slag aggregate undergo induction and microwave healing treatment. By using Steel Wool Fiber as a conductive additive, Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) mixtures were fabricated with two levels of SWF. Besides, the effect of steel slag was considered by using two types of aggregates: conventional aggregate and steel slag. To investigate healing properties, HMA mixtures were conducted to Three-Point Bending (TPB) test under repetition of 8 healing-damaged cycles. The thermal distribution and optimum heating time of samples were recorded and analyzed with an infrared camera. In addition, the load-displacement behavior at each damage-healing cycle was recorded. The results recommended that steel slag aggregate is very promising. The containing of steel slag not only gains a better healing level but also enhance ductile behavior. Moreover, adding 6 and 2% by weight of asphalt binder enhances healing properties of asphalt mixture under subjected to induction and microwave healing, respectively. Overall, the utilization of steel slag aggregation in asphalt mixture is a prominent solution.
