A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Marine Concrete Structures for the Future
Abstract The future will see an increased use of the marine environment. Food, minerals and energy are just a few key elements in this respect, there are many more. Population increase and changes of lifestyle represent a “market pull” for marine structures. There are a lot of experience from marine concrete structures. From the oil and gas platforms, and from immersed tunnels and other infrastructures. In some cases, the construction industry needs to adapt to novel requirements. For example, it may be a challenge to build 100 identical fish farming buckets. Do we need robots, new types of cement, fibers, and scaffolding? New ways of organization of projects, companies, construction? These aspects are important for successful further development of marine concrete structures. This paper will hopefully inspire to extend the use of a suitable material.
