Design of sudden contraction return bend pipe for the measurement of holdup and fouling characteristics: a CFD analysis
To enhance oil recovery and understanding of reservoir production features, Holdup monitoring of oil–water flow is important. The holdup is affected by the fouling deposit on the pipe wall. To fulfill the need for an abrupt change in direction, orientation, or change in the section of the tube with the measurement of holdup and fouling characteristics, a sudden contraction pipe coupled with a return bend has been designed. The VOF provided in FLUENT for various sets of oil and water superficial velocity was utilized. The hold-up was measured for the flow pattern created using the central angle and water level height. Also, eccentricity phenomena in core annular flow and fouling features in the return bend section of the pipe were investigated. Holdup increased for ST and SW flow patterns on increasing water level height (“hw”) & central angle (“ɵ”) respectively.
