This is the English translation of the treatise on ratio and proportion published by the Vicentine engineer Silvio Belli in 1573. In it the author aims to present the material, which was the object of much study and application in the Renaissance on the part of architects and artists, in a way that facilitates learning. The work consists of three “books” dealing with definitions, classifications, comparisons of magnitudes (First Book), of ratios (Second Book) and of proportions (Third Book). The explanations are accompanied by numerical examples.
