Greenhouse Gas Mitigation in Smart Cities: Political Economy and Strategic Mitigation Alliances
Smart cities are increasingly engaging in greenhouse gas mitigation policy. The greenhouse gas emission profiles of cities display extensive variety, so that few generalities can be made about the best mitigation policies for smart cities to adopt. However, the mitigation imperative requires the electrification of all loads in the context of complete grid decarbonization. This chapter describes the governance structures of the grid as a means for smart cities to orient their mitigation policies and programs.
