Computational Analysis of Strouhal Number Variation in Vortex Meters
Abstract Vortex meters are used to measure the flow rate by measuring the vortex shedding frequency behind a trapezoidal (or triangular)-shaped body. In the current work, analysis of various parameters affecting the performance of vortex flowmeters is carried out, using computational flow simulation. The linear relation between vortex shedding frequency and flow velocity is verified. The variation of Strouhal number with shedder angle, length and width is investigated.
