Soil-tight packing for gaps between pile shells
Conclusions 1. It is not rational to use for the gaps soil-tight packing made of rigid elements (sheet piles or pipes) diven between the shells of the bulkheads. 2. When the width of the gaps between the shells is less than 5 cm, it is recommended to use rubble packing placed in a well previously widened until the shell surfaces are exposed. The well should be extended down to 3 m below the expected depth of scour of the channel at the well. 3. When the width of the gaps exceeds 5 cm, it is also recommended to use rubble packing. However, before placing the material in the well, it is necessary to install a wooden member in close contact with the shell surface. The cross-sectional dimensions of the wooden member should exceed by at least 5 cm the width of the gap between the shells.
