Effect of Wind on the Thermal Performance of a Building Envelope in Cold Climate
The primary goal of this research is to investigate the effect of wind speed and direction on the thermal performance of a building envelope in a cold climate with temperatures of −10 ℃ and −25 ℃. This is achieved by using an air-source heat pump to maintain the inside temperature of the building envelope constant at 25 ℃ and monitoring its power consumption in a full-scale climatic wind tunnel. In addition, the wind velocities close to the walls of the building are measured and used to estimate the convective heat transfer coefficient (CHTC). The inflow wind speeds are preset at 5 m/s and 10 m/s and subsequently measured at 15 cm away from the building walls to estimate the CHTC based on the Reynolds number and Nusselt number. Furthermore, relationships between the CHTC and wind velocities are established, allowing the development of proposed CHTC prediction models based on experimental data.
