Shear strength of reinforced concrete beam–column joints
This paper introduces a mathematical model for the shear strength calculations of the interior and exterior reinforced concrete beam–column joints subjected to seismic loads. The proposed model is developed based on the strut and tie method, considering both the concrete compression strut mechanism and the truss mechanism, leading to a simple expression for the shear strength calculations. The new model is calibrated with the available test results of 105 interiors and 110 exterior beam–column joints collected from the literature. Then, it is validated by comparing its shear strength estimations with the existing model using the test results of 25 interiors and 26 exterior beam–column joints. The proposed model shows good agreement with test results.
