Strain Localization in Single Crystals and Polycrystals
Abstract Strain localization appears during cold forming processes, leading to softening and to specific deformation texture. This phenomenon has a strong impact on damage and recrystallization. This paper focuses on the description of the localization bands in single and polycrystals submitted to different loading paths. Modelling of localization, based on a crystalline approach using a finite element code, is proposed. The simulation gives some details on the evolution of dislocation densities, on all activated slip sytems and also on the microstructural anisotropy. Relations between localization bands and stored energy inhomogeneities are discussed.
