Contactless Measuring Systems for Structural Health Monitoring of Bridges
For structural health monitoring of bridges, different measuring systems are available. Here, two contactless systems for deformation measurement – photogrammetry and a laser-based system – are presented and validated on load tests on a prestressed concrete T-beam. This reference beam was part of an already demolished bridge in Luxembourg. A special terrestrial capture system prototype was used for photogrammetry, while the laser system consists of at least two lasers. It measures vertical deflections in an indirect way, where the laser beams are reflected by oblique reflector panels. Both technologies are compared as reference in our test setup to classical contacting inductive displacement measurement sensors, which can easily be used in the test setup, but rarely on large bridges on real sites. The innovative optical measurement systems are presented and assessed in detail.
